Can I Be a Child Again?
Can I be a child again,
Free from the weight of now,
With skinned knees, messy hair,
And dreams no rules endow?
Can I chase the sunlit streams,
Barefoot on the dew-kissed ground,
Where laughter echoes endless skies,
And no limits can be found?
Can I hold the stars once more,
In jars of firefly light,
And hear the whispers of the wind
That sang me to sleep at night?
Can I trade the ticking clocks
For a world of endless play,
Where time’s a friend, not foe to fight,
And nights melt into day?
Can I lose myself in wonder,
At each new sight and sound,
And see the world as pure again,
Where magic still is found?
Perhaps that child is still within,
Beneath the years, the strife.
Perhaps we carry youth’s bright spark
Through every stage of life.
So, let me find that joy once more,
Unburdened, free, and wild.
For though I cannot turn back time,
I can still live like a child.
